More than 100.000 spectators from all around the world followed Euskal Encounter’s professional video game tournament on their computer screens
The Swedish team SK has been the winner of this year’s edition of Gamegune, one of the three most important Counter Strike tournaments in the world organised by Euskal Encounter 19, the biggest computer party in Spain. To get the ¤12.000 worth in prize, SK had to beat the Swedish ESC after eliminating two of the best teams in the planet: Na’Vi (Ukraine) and Fnatic (Sweden), winners of the last year’s Gamegune. In all, 24 teams from 15 different countries and three continents have taken part in the competition, playing high quality professional games watched by more than 100.000 Internet users from more than 130 countries.

The confrontations of Counter Strike, a popular Online Tactical Combat Simulation action game, have been broadcasted in life streaming through two very popular gaming web pages. Their broadcast has been taken in and shown by hundreds of other websites, increasing enormously the number of viewers of the matches. The Spanish site http://www.myshowdown.net has added, for the first time in the country, life comments to the streaming they were broadcasting. With that purpose, the Spanish web page together with English, Brazilian, Portuguese and Russian sites specialized in video games, have moved a team of expert’s in gaming to BEC (Bilbao Exhibition Centre).

The high and constantly increasing audience ratings certify the good health of these tournaments and their ongoing professionalization. In fact, many of the players present in Gamegune earn 2.000 euro a month, are sponsored by big informatics companies and receive tempting offers from the opponent teams.
