MainframesA mainframe is essentially a supercomputer designed for the simultaneous handling of millions of pieces of information. Its technology is completely data-oriented, and thanks to its scalability, extremely high redundancy, and adaptability to varying workloads make it the ideal system for financial systems, governments, air traffic control, and in large enterprises that handle hundreds of petabytes of information.
IBM System z9 Mainframe
This year, there will be a major change regarding the mainframes section: for the first time in history, a mainframe will be in charge of offering the critical networking and application services at Euskal Encounter, making it one of the critical parts of the IT infrastructure. The mainframe will incorporate new services such as the dynamic assignment of IP addresses (DHCP), the domain name resolution service (DNS), the file transfer server (FTP) for productions and general services, and the support ticket system; it will also provide experimental IPv6 services, which will in the future replace the existing IPv4. This entire platform will be using the zLinux architecture.

In addition, on Saturday there will be a Mainframe Workshop, where users will be able to learn the basic concepts of a mainframe, and which will include a practical z/OS course (z/OS is the OS used in the mainframe architecture) under the Hercules emulator platform. |

During the event different intro and demo projections will be made, including works for retro platforms such as 8bits or AMIGA.
